The boys varsity baseball team went 3-for-3 last week, clinching victories over Princeton Day, Delran and St. Benedicts. These wins, combined with earlier wins over Blair and Lawrenceville, mean that the team has gone undefeated on the William M. Thompson Field this spring.

The team started off the week with a matchup against Princeton Day School. Jon Hu pitched the whole game, only allowing for one earned run on nine total hits. Four errors by Peddie allowed PDS to score three additional runs, but a first and fifth-inning rally gave Peddie the upper edge to defeat PDS 5-4. Junior Alex Hermanson and senior Baraka Wilson each batted in two Peddie runs, with Wilson hitting a double and a triple during his time at bat.

After a week of practice, the Falcons took to the field Friday against Delran. Despite Hermanson pitching twelve strike-outs and only allowing three hits, Delran scored twice to lead 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Peddie responded with a run batted in by Hermanson in the bottom of the fourth, and tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on junior Joe Bulger’s RBI single. Hu then came in to pitch relief for three scoreless innings, striking out three. Senior catcher Peter Manny ended the game in the bottom of the 10th inning with an RBI single to win 3-2.

The boys capped off an exciting week with a crushing 10-2 win over St. Benedicts’ on Saturday. Although head coach Erik Treese had to reconfigure his usual set-up due to tiredness from the extra innings played against Delran, the team made it work. On the defensive side, freshman Ryan Shoykhetbrod caught the first game of his Peddie career—ironically, St. Benedicts was the first game Manny caught on the varsity team two years prior. Senior Christian Bartholomew pitched 52/3 innings, only allowing one run on three hits and striking out five on the mound. Scott Miller ’15 came up from his usual second-base position to pitch the remaining 11/3 innings. The Grey Bees crossed home plate one more time as Miller walked one, struck out two, and only allowed one hit. Offensively, John McConville ’15 came out swinging in his first game of the season, going 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. Wilson drove in two runs, and Bulger and Peters each drove in an additional run to contribute to the victory.

The team ends their season this week with games against MAPL rivals Hun and Hill before competing in the NJISAA tournament next week.
