The Peddie girls varsity field hockey team is having a successful season so far this year despite Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Germantown. The team’s record is 5-1-1, and the Falcons have defeated other public and private schools in the area. Their tie came against Hopewell Valley Central High School.

When asked how the team is approaching this season, Co-captain Kelly Coyle ’16 said that the team tries not to get ahead of itself.

“We take it game by game, and that is probably the best mindset to have,” Coyle said.

Their team motto this year is “will to win.”  The players on the team exemplify that motto by “showing up to practice always wanting to be better,” Co-captain Abby Lloyd ’16 remarked.

Part of their success this year is due to each athlete’s commitment to the team. Coyle echoed Lloyd’s statement and said that their success is due to “working together and always trying to get better, each and every day.”

Coyle and Lloyd commented that every player arrives to practice each day with determination and enthusiasm to become a better player while also encouraging other teammates to work hard.  Coach Allison Treese said their success is due to “team commitment and looking to improve every day in practice.”

Lloyd has nothing but positive feelings towards her team.

“The team atmosphere is absolutely amazing this year and makes people want to work hard,” she commented. The team has a very close bond according to Coyle ‘16 and sophomore player, Alex Fanelli.  Determination is one of the key components that the team has been showing during each game, practice, and drill.  Looking towards the end of the season, Coyle says that the team is “determined to win NJ States and MAPL this year.”
