Just Keep Swimming

In a thrilling meet, Peddie swimming defeated both Lawrenceville and McDonough in a home, double-dual meet last Saturday. The team resumed their vigorous training (eight practices per week), combining lifting with swimming of course. Captain of the mens swim team, Reona Yamaguchi ’16, said that “coming off of winter break, we only had a couple of days to get ready for the meet so it was a little tough, but we managed to pull through.” The team was very excited for the meet, and several Peddie swimming alumni were spectating in the stands.

“Going into it, we were expecting a fight, and it turned out to be one of the most exciting meets in the season,” explained Nika Blank ’16, captain of the women’s team.

The mens team won fairly easily (Peddie-135, Lawrenceville-35; Peddie-115, McDonough-55). However, on the girls side, the meet was neck and neck between Peddie and McDonough throughout the course of the meet. With only the 400 Freestyle relay remaining, the score was tied and the pressure was on the swimmers.

“Everyone was on their feet cheering for the relays, and we all knew we could take the win,” Blank ’16 said.

The Peddie girls relays were able to take first and third, giving the girls team the win. The girls scores came out to be: Peddie-127, Lawrenceville-42; Peddie-87, McDonough-84.

“It was really awesome seeing the girls perform well under pressure and shows the strength of the team as a whole,” Blank ’16 added.

Upcoming meets include Germantown Academy, Mercersburg, MAPLs, and Easterns.
