Peddie Track and Wrestling Gain Popularity

There has been new energy around Peddie track and wrestling as fall term concluded and winter term began anew.

What was not a very popular team in the past few years, wrestling had a record 38 people signed up.

Newly acquired assistant coach Francis DeLaurentis expressed much excitement about the team.

“Wrestling is going very well… It’s exciting to see 38 student-athletes working very hard,” DeLaurentis said.

“[This is] a new era of Peddie wrestling and our coaches are very committed to rebuilding… The team knows this and players are very supportive of their peers’ growth within the sport,” varsity wrestler Robert Ladd ’18 said.

The team has gone to Lawrenceville for a duel practice. The wrestlers also took a trip to Princeton University to watch a wrestling match.

Not only has wrestling been a hot spot as a winter activity, but indoor track also had a roster of 115 people. This is an unusually high number as it is almost one fifth of the school.

“The atmosphere is very fun and free spirited. I think this is really going to be a great, fun year for not only the team, but also myself,” Doug Reinisch ’18 said.

“I’m excited for the season, getting to know more people, and becoming closer with my teammates,” Emily Hattman ’18 said.

With a victory at the Peddie School Invitational Tournament for the boys basketball team, paired with the positive aura surrounding wrestling and track, this winter should be a great term for Peddie athletes.
