This winter, the Peddie track team traveled to Mercersburg Academy to compete in the 2024 MAPL Indoor Track and Field Championships. After putting in a lot of hard work this season, both the boys and girls teams were successful. The boys won first place out of the total 13 events, and the girls won second place out of 13 events. According to Courtney Cane ’25, the team “had a really great season so far, and everyone has been working so hard and improving so much, so I think we were all really excited to show up and perform really strongly at MAPLs.”
Sophomore Tessa Hughes ’26 won first place for the 400m, second place for the 55m Hurdles, and third place for the High Jump. Courtney Cane ’25 won the 1600m with a time of 5 minutes and 13.35 seconds. She also came in second place for the 800m. Postgraduate Sophia Gimino ’24 came in second place for the Shot Put with a distance of 10.21m. Priyanka Seth ’24 came in second place for the High Jump, third place for the Long Jump and 55m Hurdles, and fifth place for the 55m.
Sophie Winn ’26 ran the 3200m and came in seventh place with a time of 14 minutes and 23.61 seconds. Mya Griffith ’26 came in second place for the 55m and 200m. Charis Chien ’27 came in seventh place for the 1600m and sixth place for the 800m. Erin Tam came in sixth place for the 55m Hurdles with a time of 10.82 seconds. Imani Jones ran the 200m with a time of 28.22 seconds and the 55m with a time of 8.16 seconds.
Senior Kaseme Leckie ’24 won first place in the 55m and the 200m, and came in second place for the High Jump. His time for the 200m was 23.00 seconds. Ian Borges ’25 won first place for the Triple Jump and fourth place for the Long Jump. Dylan Patel ’25 came in second place for both the 800m and 1600m. For the Shot Put, Parker Hamilton came in first place with a distance of 14.62m.
Peddie also came in first place for the 4×400 Meter Relay, which was run by Mikhail Blinnik ’24, Dasyer Bullock ’26, Luke Chon ’26, and Jelani Cine ’25. Soh Sugimoto ’25 ran the 3200m and came in third place with a time of 10 minutes and 56.84 seconds. Jelani Cine ’25 also ran the 55m Hurdles and came in second place with a time of 8.13 seconds. Overall, the boys team had a very successful meet, which resulted in their winning of first place.
The whole team put in lots of effort and hardwork to achieve first and second place in the MAPL tournament. They showed up on meet day ready to give it their all and their commitment to the team and sport paid off.
