Dear New Peddie Students,
It is Sarah Drake with your unofficial guide to Peddie 101: Everything You Need to Know. In this segment, we will discuss best places to sleep, best PFS hacks, Dining in Hightstown, and some advice from me, a senior day student who has relied on her backpack for her whole Peddie career. I have never used my locker except for freshman fall term, and here is how I survived:
How did I survive Peddie and not miss out on half of the campus events? Honestly, Gmail. If my phone was out in the lunchroom, it was because I was on Gmail. It’s where all the campus events are. When in doubt, check Gmail. Also, Google Calendar. Download it now. It can upload your schedule, and let me tell you it’s a lifesaver. I used to just have my schedule on my notes app, writing reminders and forgetting until 10 minutes before that I had a meeting. Now my life has changed – it’s going to be a new era for me.
Now, get on Instagram. This is for educational purposes. Type in Peddie … See what pops up. @Peddie Banana Cam, @Peddieistired, @Peddie Chorusand @Peddie Crushes. Those are just some of the accounts out of several. It is truly a bonding experience to get snapped by one of your friends and see yourself on Peddie Banana Cam a week later. Do yourself a favor and use Instagram to follow the student life.
On another note, here are my ratings for the best places to sleep on campus:
- Outside the Library Couches: 8.736/10. It’s a solid spot, -1 point because people walk by as you are sleeping. Also where did the old chairs next to the Cum Laude wall go?
- In the corner of the upstairs of the library 8.91/10. In the afternoon when everyone is at sports, this is a great spot. Just be careful to look academic as the librarians do walk around within the hour.
- New Swig Lobby: 10.1/10. Can I tell you, this changed my life for sleeping as a day student. Now I do not take naps at Peddie, but I like to decompress, and these couches are perfect. Also, hardly anyone walks by except for Mr. Michaels.
- History House: 6.73/10. It’s okay; it’s not great, but it does the job. What are the hours of this place? I feel like it’s closed right after 3:10. Couches upstairs are the best bet. There are great Study Rooms.
If you are feeling inspired, I guess go try out my rankings. But on another note, here is my advice before I leave you. If you need a snack, get the black and white cookies from the library; it’s 50 cents. It’s everyone’s go-to, and when they are out of stock, I fear I cry a little bit inside. But also, I got to say if you need a coffee, go into town. I have timed how long Swig to Little Key takes. It is around 12 minutes both ways including ordering time. Has anyone beaten this record? When you have time, go into town; there are amazing restaurants. Nobody ever talks about Anthonys, this place serves fried chicken and great mac and cheese. It is next to Hot Bagels. So if you need to switch it from Manninos, I highly recommend it because no one talks about this place, and it deserves more attention.
Now surviving your first year at Peddie is an accomplishment that I believe in you completing. It is hard but it is also a fun time. Your friendships will drive you forward in the hard times, and you will learn how to manage time on Peddie Time (PS: Peddie Time means on time is arriving five minutes early). Just have fun and lock in. I’m logging out now.
