Meet Ms. Madeleine Wood, Peddie’s newest French teacher: she arrives at our school after four years of teaching French at the middle school level, and one year teaching English in France. She brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the community.
When Ms. Wood first stepped foot on Peddie’s campus, she immediately fell in love with the school: “I really loved the campus, loved everybody I met. Just sitting for the first part with Peter Quinn was really inspiring, and it was just a good conversation. And the more people I met on campus, the more I came to already sense the community that Peddie has built, and I really wanted to be a part of it.”
As a teacher, Ms. Wood looks forward to connecting with students on a personal level and watching their growth as they progress through French I and French II. She recounts her success in teaching middle school French: “I had my students sixth through eighth grade, and by eighth grade, I was having them debate in French in my classroom. And I just felt that that was the coolest thing because I knew that coming in in sixth grade they didn’t even know how to say ‘hi’ and now here they are debating serious issues in eighth grade.” Just like she did in her last teaching position, Ms. Wood hopes to use her creativity to engage her students and help them understand the material.
Outside the classroom, Ms. Wood lives in Masters South as a dorm supervisor. In her free time, she likes to read, go to the gym and cook. Her hidden talents are singing and playing the trumpet. Apart from the food, her favorite part about France is that the people tend to be more blunt than Americans.
In all that she does, Ms. Wood hopes to enjoy herself as she assimilates into the Peddie community. And the Peddie nest is ready to welcome her with open arms.
