Why do you really want to serve in this position?
I want to serve as a class representative to be more directly involved in how our class shows up next year to enhance Peddie’s community, and provide a better experience for every day spent on campus. I want to be able to implement the ideas of my peers to create an environment that benefits as many people as possible, and I think this can best be achieved by running for this position, providing me an opportunity to make positive additions to my grade.
Why should your peers choose you to represent them on the Student Council and in the Peddie community? What qualities do you possess that will allow you to be a successful representative? What ideas do you want to bring to Student Council?
I think my peers should choose me to represent them on the Student Council because I can act as a medium between the voices of my classmates and the spaces where new ideas can become reality. I am able take feedback from others and modify proposals if there are ever any issues that arise with planning. I also know how to work well and collaborate with others to reach a consensus on ideas. Something that I want to bring into fruition as a class representative is to have more spirit events, especially for athletics, by having concession stands, and pre-game activities to get students active. Another idea I have that I would like to discuss with the student council is to have an anonymous platform that is open for one day, once a term, where anyone in the grade can submit a claim about an event/activity they would like to participate in, any ideas for items/snacks in the grille, or grade-specific problems that they would like to address.
How will you ensure that your leadership is inclusive and representative of the entire student body?
I love to hear everybody’s opinion about many topics on campus, whether they affect me or not. I think an important trait of a class representative to have is that they are willing to listen to anyone who wants to have their voice taken into account. As a class rep, I will make sure that I represent the ideas of the student body to the best of my ability.
What initiatives do you have in mind to improve the overall school experience for your fellow students?
I want to contribute to a community in which our class is more united as a whole. In order to achieve this, holding grade wide activities on the weekends such as game nights, sports tournaments, or trips outside of campus would be a great way to help fellow classmates to connect with each other more and build stronger relations outside of the classroom.
How might your academic and extracurricular obligations next year impact your role as a member of Student Council?
Outside of classes, I compete in track, serve on the Track Leadership Committee, and I practice both piano and saxophone.
