Why do you really want to serve in this position?
I want to serve as class rep because I genuinely care about making sure everyone’s voice is heard. I’ve noticed that students have good ideas but haven’t been able to share them, and I want to change that. I care about bringing more spirit and a more supportive community to our class and Peddie while also creating more activities or events. I want to help bring back spirit to Peddie, whether that be through sports, art shows, or musicals. Peddie isn’t easy, so I will be there to make sure that whatever you’re facing, you won’t be alone. Lastly, I want to serve because I want to get to know more of you and build better relationships with not just my friends but all my classmates. Thanks for reading and remember, VOTE FOR NATE CAUSE HE’S GREAT.
Why should your peers choose you to represent them on the Student Council and in the Peddie community? What qualities do you possess that will allow you to be a successful representative? What ideas do you want to bring to Student Council?
The Student Council should be full of kids who want to see change at Peddie. Whether that’s through more spirit, class trips, or mental health conversations, I want to help you feel supported and loved at Peddie. Over the past 2 years here, I have met some of the nicest people ever and created relationships with them that will last for years. I want to do that with more of you, as I feel that a class representative should be more than just there for ideas, but rather there for YOU. I asked some people what traits I have, and this is what they said: “Friendly, approachable, understanding, patient, and passionate about the community”. I think this sums me up pretty well, it highlights what I try to be every day. I’m comfortable talking with my fellow students and with adults, and I can think creatively within the constraints of what we are allowed to do. At the end of the day, representing our class for me just means doing whatever I can to make your lives more memorable and fun during your time at Peddie. I think that for the student council to even work, it needs to be a balanced scale of student participation and teacher participation, so I want to encourage more of you to go out to class activities and have those experiences. Thank you for considering me as your representative!
How will you ensure that your leadership is inclusive and representative of the entire student body?
Peddie is a strong community because it allows kids to be in all different friend groups, while still supporting others. I think that because of the relationships I built, I have seen what this community has to give, and I want to build more opportunities. Open communication is important as a representative, so I would definitely try to make it easier to talk to the representatives and for everybody’s ideas to be heard.
What initiatives do you have in mind to improve the overall school experience for your fellow students?
I think our class could benefit from spending more time together. I hope to have more activities at night for our class, like ice cream socials or a movie. During the warmer seasons, I want to have a class Olympics where random teams of kids play together to win a prize. Another thing that would improve the Peddie experience is more spirit. I know people say that they’ll improve spirit but don’t follow through, so my goal is to start small, like having our class make posters during DMX to highlight upcoming games. You’ve probably seen me trying my best to support various athletic teams throughout the year, and my goal is to bring more people along to cheer for our classmates. I also attend theater and music events and plan to continue doing so. The last thing is mental health. Last year, I took part in a student mental health panel where we discussed what could be done to help students. I would aim to bring that back, whether that’s just our class or the school overall.
How might your academic and extracurricular obligations next year impact your role as a member of Student Council?
Next year, I am going to take some challenging classes, but I will not be playing a varsity sport. I know that I will not let my academic and extracurricular obligations affect my participation as our class’s representative. This school is so important to me, and since being class rep means I have a bigger chance of making it better, I am willing to take the time.
