Why do you really want to serve in this position?
I want to serve in this position because I want to become more of a leader on campus. I came to Peddie because it allowed me the opportunity to become part of another community, and I still have not found a specific role in that community yet. I have always been a natural leader. From playing sports as a young kid to interacting in the classroom, I have developed the ability to work in groups, listen to all ideas, and reach compromises. These are the skills that I will bring to Student Council. I will make sure people feel confident when suggesting change that they want to see in their community, and be open to all.
Why should your peers choose you to represent them on the Student Council and in the Peddie community? What qualities do you possess that will allow you to be a successful representative? What ideas do you want to bring to Student Council?
My peers should choose me if they want to see a part of themselves in the Peddie community. Every person should have a voice, and I am the perfect candidate to grant that. My leadership skills including my ability to listen intently, compromise, and work in groups will help me greatly in this role. Along with those abilities, my creativity will bring another aspect to Student Council. I think Student Council should schedule more class activities to forge a stronger relationship in our grade.
How will you ensure that your leadership is inclusive and representative of the entire student body?
My goal is to make sure every voice in the community is heard and create an environment where asking questions is encouraged. Everyone should have the confidence to ask their class representative for change, without worry about the response. To foster this environment, I will send out polls every week that can be answered anonymously, asking for what people think should change about the community.
What initiatives do you have in mind to improve the overall school experience for your fellow students?
As a class rep, I will foster more school spirit. Some ideas I have to do this is to have more spirit weeks. Blair week should not be the only week that we all come together as a community to show our spirit. Along with spirit days, we should have more class activities during and after school. Although things like these exist, like weekend movies, most day students go home before these events take place, so I think finding more convenient times could help.
How might your academic and extracurricular obligations next year impact your role as a member of Student Council?
My academics and other extracurricular obligations will not have a negative impact on my ability to function as a working member of the community. In fact, I think my classes and athletics will help me gain different perspectives on how students deal with the stress demanding obligations.
