Why do you really want to serve in this position?
Though I feel like the Peddie community is already tight-knit, I want to improve our experience at Peddie even more. I want to make sure everyone feels included, and comfortable to discuss any issues they may have. I’m passionate about student council and I enjoy every minute of planning and organizing we do during the year, and from my experience, I have a sense of what our school can improve on. I hope the get the chance to make that change!
Why should your peers choose you to represent them on the Student Council and in the Peddie community? What qualities do you possess that will allow you to be a successful representative? What ideas do you want to bring to Student Council?
I believe I’d be a good candidate for student council because I’m communicative and work well with people. I think it’s incredibly important to listen to different perspectives, and I try to create space for open, respectful conversations. I’ve shown my dedication from the past two years, and when I commit to something, I follow through. If elected, I want to focus on making our student council even more responsive to student/teacher feedback through anonymous forms, thus allowing every student to share their ideas and concerns. I’ve heard many students complaining about sports games being at awkward times and difficult to attend, especially the football games, so I would also incorporate the idea of making Peddie events more convenient for everyone.
How will you ensure that your leadership is inclusive and representative of the entire student body?
I think being inclusive really comes down to listening and actively working to respond. I’ll try my best to make sure everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts, and I’ll work to represent those ideas to the best of my ability.
What initiatives do you have in mind to improve the overall school experience for your fellow students?
Adding more weekend shuttles, such as Trader Joes, and H-Mart. Help create sports/music events at more convenient times so people can attend (football games, orchestra concerts, etc.) Honestly, I think a panini press and more bananas would make lots of people happy in the dining hall.
How might your academic and extracurricular obligations next year impact your role as a member of Student Council?
I understand junior year is heavy, but regardless of the classes I’m taking, I will make Student Council a priority. I’ve been committed for two years and hope to serve for more!
