From Monday night Family Style sundresses to Prom ball gowns, the Peddie Prom Closet has it all! The Peddie Prom Closet is a student-run organization that, “… has been around for at least ten years,” according to the club’s faculty advisor, Mrs. McClellan, who has been helping student leaders run the Prom Closet for five years. The Prom Closet provides a variety of dresses, suits and tuxedos that are free for Peddie students to borrow on any occasion.
The Peddie Prom Closet is located in the basement of Masters dormitory. Club leaders regularly host “open hours,” where students are able to browse the racks, try their favorite items on and potentially take them home. The collection continues to grow daily as students and faculty donate gently used formal wear.
Since this organization has been around for at least a decade, co-leader Brooke Berliner ’27 quickly recognized there were a lot of outdated dresses that had not been checked out in years. Brooke helped implement a purge system for these dresses by sending images to the Peddie community and offering them a final chance to find a new home. Moreover, she explains that she has helped reshape the Prom Closet by creating a new layout allowing for more open space, installing LED lights and ordering signs for newly equipped customers to pose with! She has also helped draw attention to the club by offering “dress spotlights” in which she shares her predicted top picks for the Prom season.
When asked how she has felt since stepping into the role of co-leader, Brooke explained, “I was inspired by the show ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ to create the most fun and positive experience possible for students in the Prom Closet!” She added that she is excited to meet new customers and help them “find the perfect dress or tuxedo for the Prom!”
