Without a doubt, spring term is the favorite trimester among Peddie students. Lasting only 67 days, the term includes a remarkable list of events that unite the community. Here are four quintessential spring term experiences to look forward to:
1. Head’s Day
This year on Tuesday, May 20, the student body will assemble into four teams – Potter, Seltzer, Green and DeGray – to vie for victory. The day features a series of athletic and artistic challenges designed to test the capabilities of the Falcons. Favorite student activities include flag football, water wars and guacamole-making. School spirit and camaraderie are at the forefront of this day. Get ready to go all-out, because the date is fast approaching. Head’s Day 2024 ended with a major upset: Seltzer defeated Green, ending a years-long victory streak. Can Green reclaim its glory this spring?
2. Class Beach Trips
Organized by our dedicated StuCo members, class trips to the beach are the ideal way to celebrate the end of the year. Students load onto buses and travel to the Jersey Shore, where the ocean and boardwalk await. Don’t miss out on this day of sunshine, relaxation and good company.
3. Senior Chapel Talks
At Peddie, the spring term is also a time of reflection. Every week a few courageous seniors address the community during Chapel speeches. They share the lessons they’ve learned throughout their journey at Peddie and offer advice to the underclassmen sitting in the back pews. Maggie Blakely ’25, Sree Lakkamraju ’25 and Lizzy Rao ’25 were all recent speakers.
4. Commencement
On Sunday, May 25, the community will gather one last time to celebrate the accomplishments of the senior class. Center Campus will positively overflow with families, friends and alumni who’ve come to support the graduates. The event will kick off with a bagpipe procession of the graduates and faculty. Then the student orchestra will take over with an extensive medley of ceremonial pieces. Head of School Peter Quinn will deliver his final address to the community before his retirement. We’ll hear from our co-presidents, as well as the class valedictorian. At the end of the ceremony, the seniors will toss their caps, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one. The day is bittersweet – we commemorate the achievements of the graduating class, but also bid them farewell.
Spring term at Peddie is marked by enthusiastic competition, recreation, reflection and celebration. It’s the combination of these four characteristics that make the last few months of school fly past. Take advantage of the warm weather, high spirits and student life offerings. Spring only comes around once a year!
