Why should members of the school community choose you to represent them on the Faculty-Student Senate? What qualities do you possess that will allow you to be a successful representative of the entire student body?
The reason I feel that the members of the school community should choose me to represent them is because anyone who knows me knows that I’m passionate, I’m outgoing, I’m a good listener and I will always advocate for my classmates. That’s what it takes to be a successful representative of the entire student body – believing that we should all have a voice, that we all have ideas to make the school and our lives better, and having the courage to promote those ideas. It’s not about being similar to or different from a particular segment of the student body – it’s about being open to new ideas and wanting to play a part in making positive changes to all of our lives.
What issues do you think the Faculty-Student Senate should address and why?
These are the issues that are important to me:
1. Having more no homework nights – because the entirety of the student body would benefit from having just a few extra days to catch up or take a break.
2. Having teachers post assignments to Canvas earlier than the day before the assignment is due – this gives everyone more time to complete their assignments and allows for less stress caused by having to cram assignments in at the last minute.
3. Being able to reschedule assessments when you have up to 3 tests OR quizzes in one day – because minor assessments also require a large sum of time to study for, so having 2 tests and 1 quiz should qualify as 3 assessments (and therefore be able to reschedule one of them).
4. Creating a space for day students to have “dorms” (a resting place) – because in the times when boarders are able to go back to their dorms to rest or do work, day students often have the issue of finding a place to go if they don’t just want to do work (in other words, somewhere other than the library).
5. Extending visitation – since 30 minutes from 7:30-8:00pm doesn’t exactly allow for much time to socialize or do work with boarders / members of different dorms, any additional time would make a difference.
6. Dress Code – everyone would benefit from the option to wear sweatpants on at least Saturdays, as well as being able to wear logos so that people can express themselves.
