Peddie boys varsity baseball started their season this week with a Wednesday home scrimmage against West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South and a double-header on Sunday against Mercersburg Academy.

An unexpected catch from Kevin Coyle ’16 on second base for a double-play was the highlight of Wednesday’s scrimmage.

Three days later, the team was ready for opening day. In the first game at Mercersburg, Joe Bulger ’16, Michael Peters ’16 and Coyle all stole home to score three runs for Peddie. In the second game, Matt Boyle ’16 stepped on the mound as Peddie’s fourth pitcher from his usual position in the outfield and pitched two efficient innings, only allowing one Mercersburg runner on base.

“I haven’t pitched since JV baseball freshman year, so it felt good to get back on the mound,” Boyle said.

Despite losing, the team maintains a positive outlook and looks forward to improving on their current performance.
