Forty-four Peddie students attended the YMCA Model United Nations (MUN) conference held in Hershey Park, Pa. last weekend
MUN is a program that is based on the actual United Nations in New York, and allows high school students to actively understand and participate in global issues and topics. There are numerous numbers of committees that a student can join, ranging from General Assembly to Nation Building Committee. The YMCA MUN program has been around for 45 years, offering opportunities to high school students to expand their views and improve their public speaking skills.

Peddie students passed a milieu of resolutions and forged bonds with other nations and won an Outstanding Delegation award due to the distinguished preparation and performances of the Peddie delegates. Nicholas Massenburg-Abrahams ’17 and Rahul Palnitkar ’18 won the Premier First Year Delegate Award in their committees. Massenburg-Abrahams was also elected chair of his committee for next year’s conference and was selected as an alternate to the highly-competitive Conference on National Affairs
“It was a little intimidating at first, but I quickly found my voice and had an enjoyable experience,” Ryan Davison ’16, a first year delegate, said.
Aside from the committee sessions and country caucuses, YMCA MUN also incorporates several service projects that are specific to each committee, ranging from donating children’s books to toiletries.
“Our service project sponsored a village in Africa. We were donating school supplies to the children there,” Luna An ’16, a delegate of the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural committee said.
