Jim Domoracki was named the new director of athletics for the 2013-14 school year. He succeeds interim director of athletics, Marc Buchner ’92, who will be returning to the math department full-time.
Domoracki previously worked as athletic director for three years at the Annapolis Area Christian School in Maryland. He also served as a basketball coach at AACS, where he had an 83-44 record.
Domoracki also worked at other educational institutions, including Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Rivier College in Nashua, N.H., where he started his professional career.
Domoracki says he was drawn to Peddie by the character displayed by the students and teachers. Domoracki also commented that Peddie’s athletic facilities are “second to none,” and said that he wants to “sit back and observe” in his first year as athletic director.
“I want to get to know everyone on a personal level,” Domoracki said.
He has made progress on this aspiration already, showing up to practices and games and talking to players, coaches and managers.
Domoracki also said he “can’t wait for Blair Day” and he looks forward to not only competing in such a long-lasting rivalry but also winning the Potter-Kelley Cup for the first time in three years.
He also commented on restarting the tradition of “The Rock.” The tradition began in the late 1980s when a large rock was presented to a player that demonstrated both physical and mental toughness during the previous week.
When Domoracki arrived at Peddie, the rock was propping his door open. He learned about the tradition later on and decided to resume the activity of awarding it to a player from any sports team at Community Meeting each week.
