Candidate Statement:
Hey Peddie my name is Massimo Sheinin. I am running for Vice-President because my experiences at Peddie have shown me how strong this community can be when students feel connected and represented. Through my involvements at Peddie, I have seen how much energy and pride student engagement brings to campus. I believe this role is about listening carefully, representing students honestly, and following through on ideas. I want to help increase Peddie spirit by making events more engaging and encouraging wider participation. I am also motivated to improve PFS by making a better connection with students feedback. I value collaboration and believe the best outcomes come from bringing different perspectives together. Ultimately, I want to continue to improve the community that has shaped me so much.
Governing student council and the school will take a good portion of your time, what other activities both in and out of school do you plan on participating in? How will you balance them?
This winter I balanced wrestling, leading the outdoors club, and taking four ap classes. Although it was difficult, through hard work I persevered. The past three years at Peddie have taught me important time management skills and I know as vice president I will continue to utilize these skills.
What qualities do you possess that makes you a good role model and representative that will allow you to be a leader of the entire school?
The most important quality of any leader is empathy. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. A good leader needs to be aware of everybody not just the people at the top. I have always strived to have empathy. Whether leading an outdoors club activity or as a leader on the wrestling team, I am always trying to embrace everybody’s prospective and resonate with their emotions. When vice president can show empathy towards all members of the school, good progress will be made.
What ideas do you have for change and how would you implement these ideas? What would you like to continue?
There are many things that can help cure Peddie’s lack of spirit and enthusiasm, at times. I believe that better communication with PFS is one of those. Everybody remembers the feeling of eating a great meal: joyful. However, a stretch of mid meals will make one feel worn down, tired, and even stressed. The difference is clear, on days when parents bring the dining hall duck donuts or dumplings everybody is noticeably happier. 2 changes will help improve this: 1 Developing a meal review form, so PFS knows which meals to keep making and which ones to cut out. 2 An easy and anonymous meal requesting system because nothing is better than eating a food you have been wanting and emailing PFS directly can be intimidating.
