Candidate Statement:
I want to make Peddie feel like a second home for all students. I believe the role of the Co-President is to be the bridge between administration and students, and to facilitate more communication between them. It is the Co-President’s job to listen to what the faculty and student body both want and find a way to compromise and take initiative. I also believe it’s the Co-President’s job to survey the morale of the school and to step in when morale is low. It’s vital that our student government works hard to make school as enjoyable for everyone as possible. Academics and school can be draining, and the school community should be able to help students and faculty recover from their demanding days.
Governing student council and the school will take a good portion of your time, what other activities both in and out of school do you plan on participating in? How will you balance them?
I’m a Prefect, a member of Gold Key, and have been a student council representative for the last two years–along with being part of the cross country team. I’ve been balancing leadership positions along with sports and classes for the last year or so by managing my time well and avoiding procrastination. Time management has always been important to me, and I always strive to be days ahead on homework. On top of already being accustomed to juggling my various roles, my senior year course load is actually lighter than my current schedule, so I will have even more time.
What qualities do you possess that makes you a good role model and representative that will allow you to be a leader of the entire school?
I am a good listener and open-minded, so I am always willing to hear out an idea. I’m very logistical, and am always thinking of the most efficient and viable way to execute an idea. Additionally, I’m a very determined person. I can be stubborn at times, and will continue to push for students’ ideas.
What ideas do you have for change and how would you implement these ideas? What would you like to continue?
I want to make campus feel as home-y as possible for all students. One major issue I want to target is finding a place on the first floor of the student center where underclassmen can put their backpacks. Currently, they are supposed to keep them on second floor, but they fill the Grille anyways, so I think finding a designated spot on first floor would be the best way to keep STUD safe for everyone. I also want to revitalize the senior lounge so there are more places where students can go and rest during their off time. I also know many international students struggle with jetlag right after long breaks, and I want to find a way to be more accomodating.
