Dorm programming, which so far has taken place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, will be moved to 7:30 p.m. on Monday evenings for the winter term. “The dorm supervisors met and decided that this would be an optimal time for dorm programming … we are mindful of the loads and demands that are on our students,” said Austin Frank, dorm supervisor in Potter South.
This change also prompted discussions about the new time conflict that dorm programming would present, particularly with the Math Center and the Arts Center. Currently, the Arts Center closes at 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays and is open until 10:00 p.m. every other night.
“The idea of moving our closed Arts Center day to Mondays was presented to me by Mr. Bickford,” Arts Department Chair Alan Michaels explained. “When I asked students on the Arts Citizenship Committee about closing on Monday and being open on Thursday, they were overwhelmingly in agreement.”
The Arts Center will henceforth close at 8:00 p.m. on Mondays and be open until 10:00 p.m. every other night.
The Math Center will also change its hours to accommodate dorm programming. Currently, the Math Center is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“Because they are moving the dorm programming to Monday, my math center hours are moving into Sunday,” explained mathematics teacher Victoria Montgomery, who so far has hosted Math Center on Monday nights.
As Math Department Chair Gregory Koch confirmed in an email, here are the winter term hours:
Sunday 7:30-9:30 p.m. Mrs. Montgomery (ANH 311)
Tuesday 7:30-9:30 p.m. Mr. Buchner (CAH 205)
Thursday 7:00-9:00 p.m. Mr. Gartner (ANH 310)
This shift will create a different extra-help routine, particularly as any day students seeking Math Center guidance before Tuesday night will need to come to campus on Sunday.
Overall, these changes will provide for an interesting adjustment to the weekly routine of all students as the winter term approaches.
