Candidate Statement:
Hey Peddie, my name is Noah Kerlin and I’m running to be your Co-President. I am a Junior day student from Hamilton, NJ. My main goal as your Co-President would be to listen and connect to all of the students and act as a bridge between the student body and faculty. I think the role of the Co-President is to make sure that events are well planned and run smoothly, while also listening to the suggestions of students and doing their best to implement them wherever possible. The Co-Presidents should do whatever they can in their power to provide every student with the best Peddie experience possible, and be open to changes.
As president, I will consider every suggestion I’m given and make the school run smoother where possible. I would also want to foster a stronger sense of community, and have more people support each other at things like sporting events.
Governing student council and the school will take a good portion of your time, what other activities both in and out of school do you plan on participating in? How will you balance them?
I am on the golf team in the spring and plan to do golf PA for the fall next year. I also plan to manage JV Basketball while doing golf PA in the winter. In addition to sports, I plan to be a head tour guide while balancing the academic work of Senior year. I will be able to effectively combine governing student council with my classes and sports by budgeting time for each activity. I have gotten very good at being able to balance all of the aspects of school within my last 3 years here, and I know I will be able to balance the workload of being Co-President.
What qualities do you possess that makes you a good role model and representative that will allow you to be a leader of the entire school?
A quality that will allow me to be a leader of the entire school is being friendly and open to conversations with every student. Throughout the year I will be ready to carefully listen to suggestions from everybody and be dedicated to improving the school. I also strive for necessary changes to be made and I am super focused on getting things done when my mind is set on a goal. For all these reasons and more, I will be able to effectively improve the Peddie Experience for all levels of our community.
What ideas do you have for change and how would you implement these ideas? What would you like to continue?
The main ideas I have would be to increase student attendance at sporting events in order to foster an improved school spirit. Students simply don’t have time in their packed schedules to be able to attend many sporting events, and I believe this needs to change. There is no better feeling then getting cheered on by your friends while you are doing something you love, and there needs to be more of this within the school. I would implement this by pushing for no-homework nights during the most important sporting events, like the Hightstown vs. Peddie basketball game, and tournaments like the PSIT or States. This would allow students to be able to attend more games, and I think the student turnout would greatly increase. I would also take everyone else’s ideas for change into consideration and decide how important the issue is and where StuCo would be able to incorporate it. I would continue lasting traditions including Blair Week, Heads Day, Prom, seasonal dances and more.
