The summer of 2020 was different than anyone anticipated. For some, this meant binging a new Netflix series or taking online classes. For others, like Estefani Hernandez, a new member of the Peddie English Department, the catastrophic event presented a fresh start and a new opportunity.
Despite these uncertain times, Peddie is working extremely hard to recreate the community that defines it. Through a hybrid schedule, many students are able to come back on campus. Even students who cannot or choose not to come on campus are able to connect with the community through virtual learning. One such remote learner is Emily Yang ’21.
With the pandemic striking headlines and attacking cities, Peddie students around the world altered their plans over the summer. 70% of all Falcons are back on campus, including a sprinkling of international students. Erika Egliskis ’23 is one of them.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Native American populations, especially those living on tribal lands (about twenty-two percent of the Native population according to the US Census Bureau), have been disproportionately impacted by the virus (American Medical Association). Chronic disease and underfunding of Indigenous healthcare is putting Indigenous folx at higher risk of poor outcomes.
Georgia’s response to the novel Coronavirus received national attention amid Governor Brian Kemp’s controversial decision to allow non-essential businesses to resume basic operations.
