After much wait, the Kaye Dormitory opened on Wednesday, Oct. 19. This brand new dorm includes a spacious lounge, air conditioning throughout all the rooms, wooden floors and new furniture.

Prior to the upcoming school year, a select group of upperclassmen learned that they would have to return to a dorm they likely lived in during their earlier years at Peddie, the Kerr Dormitories, after Headmaster Peter Quinn sent out an email regarding the unfinished status of the Kaye dorms.

“It was very irritating to know that I was living in Kerr as an upperclassman while lowerclassmen were living in substantially nicer Potter dorms,” Nathan Stern ’18, prefect of Kerr North, said.

However, the frustration of living in Kerr created a close knit group of boys who had started referring to themselves as the residents of Berr, or in other words, Better Kerr.

While the students will miss the memories they made in Kerr, they are excited to start anew in Kaye North.

“I love the new dorm… Everything is so crisp and clean, and what made it better was the fact that the moving process wasn’t bad at all,” Paul Cornelius ’18 said.

Roommates Manny Cano-Garraway ’18 and Erick Patterson ’18 also reflected on how their room is, “astronomically nicer.”

A positive vibe created from a frustrating living situation will only grow exponentially now that there is so much excitement surrounding the new dorm, and many students are enthusiastic as to how Kaye will change the dynamic of both dorm and school life.
