Candidate Statement

Being a President means representing your community. In representing your community, a President should amplify the voices of the people and advocate for their best interest. I am running for Co-President because I am a qualified leader, great communicator, and my unique perspective that I have earned through being a black young woman, and a day student at Peddie.

Governing student council and the school will take a good portion of your time, what other activities both in and out of school do you plan on participating in? How will you balance them?

In school, I am captain/choreographer for DYNASTY (dance team), and that is both a passion and a big time commitment for me. Being the best Co-President that I can be will be my top
priority, and with careful planning and time management, I will fulfill my duties as Co-President while I am still committed to DYNASTY.

What qualities do you possess that makes you a good role model and representative that will allow you to be a leader of the entire school?

I am an empathetic person, an active listener, which enables me to understand and respect opinions and ideas that are not my own, and consider all perspectives of a conflict. I am also
strategic and prudent, which enables me to be reasonable and fair. With these, I balance emotion and logic when making decisions of all sizes. I treat everybody I know with the same
love and respect that I give to the people I love and respect the most, because I believe that everybody deserves to be treated with a certain level of decency. I would like to be a role model of thoughtfulness, which leads to a stronger, united Peddie community.

What ideas do you have for change and how would you implement these ideas? What would you like to continue?

I would like to continue putting emphasis on balance between work, extracurricular, and social lives. I like the programs we have in place such as Academic Support and CAPS to aid students with finding that balance while maintaining mental wellness, but I do believe that these programs can be improved to benefit our community even more. I would start with having a written survey done by the students, organized by grade, to evaluate stress levels, daily organization, and how supported they feel by Academic Support, CAPS, the faculty and their peers. With this information, it would then be in the hands of Student Government to look for common trends and any suggestions or ideas that can be derived from the information gathered.
