The boys golf team dominated MAPL rival Lawrenceville in their opening match of the season (196-224). Highlighted by performances from Kyle Sterbinsky ’15, John Kim ’14 and Dylan Lloyd ’16, the win also included contributions from newcomers Harry Brenner ’16 and Trevor Kraws ’17.

“Peddie golf has built an impressive legacy over the past 10 years,” head coach Benjamin Bickford said. “Of course, this puts significant pressure on a younger team like we have this year, but they are putting in the effort to improve their play every day,”

The squad faltered April 5 against Blair (244-212) in a match in which they were missing four players. It was their first loss in over two seasons.

The team captured fourth place out of 20 at the Garden State Cup championships on April 7, with a four-player total of 249 strokes. Sterbinksy, ranked 29 amateur in the Polo rankings, garnered his second consecutive individual title by shooting a one-under par 55 in the rain-shortened 14-hole game.

The boys aim to beat perennial rival Bergen Catholic, who placed second at the Garden State Cup.

The team also hopes to raise money and awareness in the third-annual Swing Against Cancer, an event in which multiple MAPL league school play golf in order to raise money for cancer foundations. Last year, the event raised a total of over $10,000; Peddie’s team contributed $1,400.

“The team’s efforts to give back with the Swing Against Cancer event speaks to their character and citizenship,” Bickford said.

The team faces MAPL rival Hun next Wednesday.
