Why do you really want to serve in this position?
I’m running for class rep because I aspire to work with our freshman class through spirit, teamwork, and unity. Our class is extremely diverse, and everyone has unique talents and interests. I’m confident that I can help represent and guide our class through the challenges at Peddie, whether they are academic, social, or extracurricular. I also want to make sure that everyone’s voice is heard, keeping our class even more welcoming and inclusive than it already is.
Why should your peers choose you to represent them on the Student Council and in the Peddie community? What qualities do you possess that will allow you to be a successful representative? What ideas do you want to bring to Student Council?
I believe that I would be a great class representative because I’m open-minded and communicative. I’m willing to listen to any perspectives or ideas that you may have and I’m also open to just listening whenever you need it. I’ll also make sure to convey all the ideas to the student council, making sure that the ideas are discussed and considered. For this reason, I think that our class should be able to relay any ideas they may have to the student council anonymously, through an anonymous suggestion box for example. I also have a lot of experience with leadership. In my middle school, I served in leadership positions all four years and led many initiatives through those positions. As we continue through our freshman year, my hope is to help make our class even more tight-knit, as we get to know each other better as the months go by.
How will you ensure that your leadership is inclusive and representative of the entire student body?
I believe that inclusive leadership is characterized by thoughtful and open-minded actions. If I’m chosen as a representative, I would make sure to keep everyone’s best interests at heart and incorporate as many ideas as I can, sharing them with the student council. I would also check-in with my peers regularly, making sure that people are doing okay, especially as our obligations and expectations of us start to increase.
What initiatives do you have in mind to improve the overall school experience for your fellow students?
I would love to make school events more accessible for all students — boarding and day. I also think we should have a freshman class trip, which I would love to help organize. Overall, I think incorporating a suggestion box would bring more ideas to the table, making it easier for students to share their ideas and opinions.
How might your academic and extracurricular obligations next year impact your role as a member of Student Council?
Although my academic and extracurricular obligations will inevitably increase next year, that would never come in the way of my role as a Student Council member. In fact, it would only help! Through various activities and obligations, I would be able to meet and connect with even more of my peers, allowing me to encourage and support them in multiple ways. I wouldn’t see my obligations as a challenging task, but rather a way for me to further deepen my connection with my peers.
