The class of 2029 has elected Wyatt Raya, Sewon Lee and Grace Kim as grade representatives. Wyatt Raya received the most votes and will serve as head representative.
Twenty-two candidates ran for the position(s). Candidate statements were sent to the grade by email and published on The Peddie News website. Each had the chance to speak briefly to their peers at a class meeting during Tuesday DMX. Online voting opened shortly after and closed at the end of the day. Results were announced to the entire student body at Wednesday’s Community Meeting.
In his candidate statement, Raya stressed commitment, saying, “I will always put my role as class rep first, no matter what happens.” Ideas he proposed included giving students a greater say in Grille special offerings and PFS menu items and implementing a credit card scanner at the library’s Cafe Annenberg.
In response to a request for comment, Raya simply wrote, “Let’s get to work.”
In a statement to The Peddie News, Sewon Lee expressed gratitude for being elected by her peers, saying, “I’m so, so incredibly thankful to have the honor of being class representative. I hadn’t expected to even come close to being elected, so the reveal was a total surprise.”
She went on to speak about her prospects for the position: “I don’t have a fully defined idea of my role and responsibilities yet, but I know I want to prioritize getting to know even more people and being approachable for any ideas. I listen to the people!” she said.
Grace Kim addressed her peers in her statement: “Thank you to the Class of 2029 for your trust in me! I’m beyond honored to represent our class,” she said. “Approaching my new role, I couldn’t be more excited to engage in student council. Making your ideas into real initiatives is my priority. I will make sure to be your Ace!”
The 3 students joined the rest of the Student Council members at a lunch meeting on Wednesday.
