Why do you really want to serve in this position?
I want to serve as a 9th Grade Class Representative to make a lasting impact on our school community. I can represent a large portion of our 9th grade class as a student athlete (first year wrestler!), set crew member, theatre-lover, hard worker, part of PEST and the Outdoors Club. I am a thriving boarding student, which proves I can adjust quickly to new environments I have not faced before. I understand and am experiencing the challenges we freshman are facing, academically and socially, this year at Peddie as I adjust to the higher expectations myself. I will advocate for my peers and myself to keep traditions we enjoy and benefit from, and change ones we do not.
I have experience on councils from middle school:
Student Council: 6th Grade: Class Representative
7th Grade: Secretary
8th Grade: President
National Junior Honor Society: 6th Grade: Member
7th Grade: Treasurer
8th Grade: Vice President
I am currently interviewing for a position on the OneProject Youth Council.
I hope to serve you in the same way I did my classmates in the past.
I want to be in this position because I will do it well.
Why should your peers choose you to represent them on the Student Council and in the Peddie community? What qualities do you possess that will allow you to be a successful representative? What ideas do you want to bring to Student Council?
You should choose me to represent you because I will listen to you.
I am organized, determined, and ambitious. These are essential qualities for planning events and making them happen. I am both a listener and a speaker, so I can accurately understand issues and bring them to attention and ultimately resolution.
I want to organize and publicize events that the student body wants, with input from you each step of the way.
How will you ensure that your leadership is inclusive and representative of the entire student body?
I will ensure my leadership is inclusive and representative of the entire student body by regularly asking for your input. When I am unsure of your opinion, I’ll make a quick survey. I will make myself available to you, through email and in person. I will listen to you and thoroughly explore ways to make your ideas a sustainable reality, as well as coming up with ideas of my own. I will arrange time to talk to you and discuss.
I will strive to enhance our school environment to consistently foster collective Peddie spirit and culture. Pride in our community shouldn’t come and go throughout the school year, but be present in our lives year-round. We have the privilege to experience the best of Peddie, and I will help you take full advantage of the many opportunities provided here by using our resources efficiently and making sure you are aware of campus happenings.
What initiatives do you have in mind to improve the overall school experience for your fellow students?
I want to keep events we enjoy, and change ones we do not. I will give your real opinions to the council.
I want to ensure communication between the council and our 9th Grade throughout the school year. I want to give you a voice and the ability to contribute.
I want to give you choices because this is your school, your events, and your opportunities. And they should be things you collectively want, not what other people decide for you.
How might your academic and extracurricular obligations next year impact your role as a member of Student Council?
Academics and extracurriculars will give me more perspective and ability to consider the entire school body.
While obligations will take away from time I could devote to the council, I will show that I value my position by using the time I do have efficiently, keeping expectations realistic, and keeping council matters a priority.
